Corsica is the least populated but perhaps the loveliest of the larger Mediterranean islands with a flavour as much Italian as French.

The rugged island of Corsica looks like a mountain thrust from the sea, with it pointed gnarled finger of Cap Corse looking towards the Genoan Riviera.

Its wild and often surprising scenery is its chief glory, ringed by a 960km (600 mile) coastline of world class sandy beaches, quiet coves, fishing villages, jagged headlands and tumbling rocks.

The interior comprises an extraordinary variety of landscapes, with snow capped mountains, rocky peaks and clear pools and streams, forests of chestnut and pine, vineyards, olive and orange groves, tropical palms and even a region of arid desert.

Ajaccio with palm lines boulevards and wonderful morning markets; is Corsica’s capital and the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte.
